What I'm spending most of my time doing

I'm working 3, sometimes 4 days a week in a bookshop owned by family friends which sells old and rare books. I feel connected to my grandparents' experience in this role, as for a number of years they had their own bookshop in Belfast.

What I'm spending the rest of the time doing

Trying to build a running habit. Trying to buold a more sustainable cycling habit - committing to short local loops more often, as opposed to longer, less frequent flâneries.

My priorities at the moment

Get job

What I've been thinking about lately

I've been thinking a lot about the concept of the Third Place. This stems from working in a bookshop and it has led me recently to join the Royal Society of Arts here in London. It's a great place to go and work in the company of other people working on their own social change projects.

Where I'm planning to travel to next

As part of a deep dive into urbanism and exploring possibilites in that field, I'm planning a sort of Grand Tour meets UN SDG 11 trip around a number of European cities. On the list so far are Paris, Zurich, Vienna, Copehagen and Amsterdam. I'm very taken with the philosophy behind slow travel so these principles will influence my trip, though at the same time I can't wander around Europe for too long and I do have a list of things I want to see. Praise the Lord for the U27 Interrail Youth Pass!

Where I'm sharing online

I have a section on this site for rough notes which, hopefully, will become less rough over time. It's an idea I nicked from others on the Internet where it's known as a digital garden. It lives here.

Are.na is a website I discovered last year and I just find myself liking it more and more. I'm not going to try and explain what it is here, but here's my profile. I don’t really know what I do here, but it's certainly fun.

I also use some other great 'social' apps like Trakt (via Rippple), Step, Beli, Storygraph and Retro, but they're kind of just for me/friends and family.
